Sponsor A Student
Sponsor a Student – without you, they have no history… without them, psychology has no future!
Make a contribution! Click here to contribute online, or, for information, email students@indianapsychology.org.
In 2010 and beyond, there are high hopes and new initiatives underway for students. Look for
- additional activities at Fall Conference
- a student-psychologist mentoring program
- a networking site linked from IPA’s webpage
- face-to-face visits campus visits with IPA leaders
- a task force exploring options for reducing student loan debt
To get all these new programs off to a strong start, IPA is issuing its members a personal invitation to “Sponsor a Student.”
For more information, phone the IPA office 317-257-7449 or email students@indianapsychology.org.
Invest a little time,
When you accept the invitation to “Sponsor a Student,” you have the chance to make some very important things happen. There are lots of possibilities that don’t require a huge commitment. You could
- invest thirty minutes of your time answering questions on the website or by email;
- take a couple of students to lunch
- explain a legislative position, or
- just listen over the phone to a student’s concerns and questions.
IPA will help you make these connections, because we know that IPA (and APA) will have a stronger future if students encounter firsthand – WHILE THEY ARE STUDENTS– why it matters to be a member of a state psychological association.
Invest a little money,
When you donate $100, you make it possible for a student to attend one of IPA’s regional conferences, experience the quality of our CE events, and rub elbows with other IPA members. $50 can underwrite the expense for a student to participate in the poster competition at Fall Conference. And even $25 covers a student’s dues for a year. (IPA will even send you the contact information of “your” student if you’d like to hear more about how your donation was invested.)
Make a real difference to the future of psychology…
If you can afford to donate an even larger sum, we’ll work with you to put it to good use. A major donation received last year from Dr. Terri Salamanca in honor of Dr. Michael Murphy of Terre Haute has been used to establish a fund to help IPA “promote psychology and support students of psychology” in becoming leaders and advocates for their profession. Using the interest from that fund, we’ve already begun to recruit APAGS leaders from around the state to join IPA and lead these new student initiatives. In the coming months, you’ll meet several of our newly “sponsored students” on this site – including Amber Landers of Purdue (Student Representative to the Board of Directors), Heather Woods, MA, Campus Rep for APAGS at Ball State, and Kelly Hutchins, Indy (State APAGS Coordinator.)
